San Antonio is an attractive place to live with a warm climate and a multi-cultural environment. Housing is affordable and there are many activities including professional sports, diverse music, theater and art activities, many fine restaurants, and the beautiful downtown Riverwalk. San Antonio is 90 minutes from Austin, 3 hours from Houston, and 2 1/2 hours from the Gulf Coast beaches.
Founded in 1718, San Antonio is the 8th largest city in the United States with
a population of 1,212,500. The city is considered one of America's most attractive
and livable cities, and maintains the atmosphere of a smaller town. San Antonio
has a distinctive multicultural legacy that includes Spanish,
Western, German, and Mexican influences.
San Antonio boasts numerous attractions including the Alamo, the internationally acclaimed Riverwalk located downtown, the San Antonio Missions National Historic Park containing the oldest church in the United States, La Villita, one of the original settlements, and the 750 foot Tower of the Americas. San Antonio is home to theme parks: Sea World of Texas and Six Flags of Texas Fiesta Texas. The multipurpose Alamodome is home to the NBA San Antonio Spurs as well as many other events. The city is centrally located for many outdoor activities and is close to the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Home to ten colleges and universites, four military bases, and biomedical industrial institutions, San Antonio offers diverse educational and employment opportunities. The University of Texas Health Science Center, The University of Texas at San Antonio, the University of the Incarnate Word, Trinity University, and St. Mary's University and Law School are some of the institutions of higher learning which are readily available.
UTHSCSA and its affiliated hospitals are tertiary referral centers located in a suburban environment. The cost of living is lower than many parts of Texas and the USA, with a wide variety of houses, apartments and condominiums in close proximity to the medical center.
