Division of General Medicine: Mission Statement

The mission of the Division of General Medicine, Department of Medicine, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, is to serve the needs of the public by:

(a) providing education and training to medical students, residents, and physicians at all levels in general internal medicine, including the knowledge and skills required for primary care practice;

(b) encouraging medical students and residents to select careers in general internal medicine and primary care;

(c) conducting research related to general internal medicine and primary care;

(d) providing high quality medical services as general internists with expertise in primary care; and

(e) acting as a responsive resource in affairs related to general internal medicine and primary care for the nation and the state, with a particular emphasis on the health care needs of south Texas.
