Welcome to the website of the Division of Hospital Medicine! We appreciate the opportunity to tell you more about our Division, our faculty, and our educational, clinical, quality improvement, and research activities.
The Division of Hospital Medicine is among the first established hospitalist groups in the country, having been founded in 1996. We became a Division in the Department of Medicine in 2006.
Our division is highly integrated into the educational activities of the Department of Medicine. In addition to teaching medical students and housestaff on the inpatient General Medicine services of University Hospital and the Audie L. Murphy Veterans’ Affairs Hospital, we are active participants in undergraduate and graduate medical education through the Clinical Assessment of the Patient, Advanced Clinical Exam Skills, and Fourth Year Boot Camp courses, among many others. We are also developing an Inpatient Curriculum based on the Core Curriculum of the Society of Hospital Medicine, which is a key web-based learning resource for medical students and housestaff.
Our clinical activities have greatly increased in the last 2 years. We currently attend on the teaching and non-teaching general medicine services, as well as the medicine consult service, at University Hospital, the Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital, and CHRISTUS Santa Rosa – Medical Center Hospital.
Our research and quality improvement initiatives focus on areas that improve the quality and efficiency of care delivered to hospitalized patients, with projects in hospital flow, pain control, post-discharge follow-up, and cost-effectiveness analyses.
I hope that you enjoy learning more about us, and I welcome your comments and questions.
