Simulation -
Beginning in 2006, I have initiated efforts to use simulation for teaching in residency and student education. Activities include developing a curriculum for teaching invasive bedside procedures, developing a curriculum for advanced medical interviewing, and working with the nursing school to conduct interprofessional high fidelity simulation exercises |
Women''s Health -
I have developed expertise in the field of women''s health for the internal medicine specialist. I teach a weekly clinic for internal medicine residents, have developed a curriculum and didactic series, and speak at conferences on various women''s health topics. |

The internal medicine residency is the largest residency partcipating in the SBIRT grant. With my colleague Michelle Conde, we have developed a curriculum that includes didactic presentations and Standardized Patient scenarios to allow practice and immediate feedback on these skills. |

Pam Smith, RN, APN and I have developed a curriculum to teach invasive bedside procedures to Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Physicians-in-Training using a case based approach and incorporating simulation training. Three groups of APN students and fourth year medical students have completed the training to date. We are evaluating data on pre and post knowledge of procedures and how the learners evaluate the interprofessional learning environment. |
